Our partner Kaunas IN invites you to explore the city through three unique and engaging social tours:
- Soviet Lithuania: Behind the Iron Curtain – Step back in time to everyday life under Soviet rule. Taste authentic doughnuts in a vintage Soviet café and descend six meters underground to the Nuclear Bunker Museum, home to over 1,200 Cold War-era exhibits, including original KGB spy devices and surveillance tools. Experience the secret world of espionage and Lithuania’s recent history in a captivating journey.
- Discover Kaunas Modernism – a UNESCO World Heritage Experience – Explore Kaunas’s interwar modernist architecture, recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List as Modernist Kaunas: Architecture of Optimism. Walk through Žaliakalnis and the city center to see architectural masterpieces reflecting Lithuania’s golden era, and conclude with a hands-on Sodai straw mobile workshop, a UNESCO-listed tradition to take home as a unique keepsake. - Living History of Žaliakalnis – Immerse yourself in the history of Kaunas’s green hill through the INCH BY INCH performance-tour. Combining contemporary dance, music, and storytelling, this guided tour begins at the iconic Kaukas Stairway and reveals the hidden stories and spirit of the Žaliakalnis district. During the first days of the symposium, they will be available on-site at the registration area to share information about the city and the social tours in person.
Participants will be picked up for the social tours directly from the symposium venue and returned there after the tours.
Additionally, Kaunas IN will provide all the necessary information about the city of Kaunas and its attractions, as well as offer participants free city maps. You can find plenty of useful information about Kaunas in English on their official website.
